Published: 2026-09-23

35-Chinna Katha Kaadu has won two honours at the 72nd National Film Awards, with the film being named Best Children's Film and young actor Arun Dev Pothula receiving the award for Best Child Artist. The Best Children's Film honour was received by director Nanda Kishore Emani and the film's producer.

Directed by Nanda Kishore Emani, 35-Chinna Katha Kaadu tells a family-oriented story through the perspective of children, using their curiosity and understanding of the world to explore themes around education, learning and relationships. The film brings these ideas into an emotional family drama while keeping its young characters at the centre of the narrative.

The Best Children's Film award recognises the film's approach to telling a story that speaks to younger audiences without limiting itself to them. Its central ideas around learning and the different ways children understand the world give the film an identity that goes beyond a conventional children's story. The honour was presented to director Nanda Kishore Emani and the producer, recognising their contribution to bringing the film together.

The second recognition came for Arun Dev Pothula, who won Best Child Artist for his performance in the film. As one of the young performers at the centre of the story, his performance plays an important role in carrying the film's emotional perspective. The award acknowledges his contribution to bringing the character and its experiences to life.

The win was also an emotional moment for Arun Dev's family. His father was visibly emotional while watching his son receive the National Award, making the achievement even more special for the young actor and his family.

With these two honours, 35-Chinna Katha Kaadu has received recognition for its child-focused storytelling as well as the young performance that helped bring that world to the screen.
