Sr NTR is the legendary actor of Tollywood, as known to us all. He has attained international recognition, craze and respect for his versatile acting skills. Not only the Telugu audience, but also a huge international fan base, was there for the actor throughout his career. Even many international celebrities used to admire Rama Rao’s work. One such admirer of Sr NTR’s work was Sir Garry Sobers, the iconic West Indies cricket player of the 1960s. Here is a throwback incident recollected to you from Telugu Filmnagar when Sir Garry Sobers met Sr NTR.
The West Indies team visited India in 1967 to play a three-match test series with the host team. Sir Garry Sobers hit 3 centuries against India in that series. After the completion of the third test match in Madras, Sir Garry Sobers requested the Indian cricket team management that he would like to meet Sr NTR, the legendary actor of South India. The Indian cricket team were so proud and happy about Sobers’ request, and they took him to the sets of the film Kanchukota immediately to arrange a meeting with Sr NTR. Both Sr NTR and Garry Sobers spent quality time together. Garry Sobers shared his fanboy moment with the legendary actor Sr NTR. Rama Rao too, in return, congratulated Sobers on the centuries he had made in the series. Kollywood star actor Gemini Ganesan and Pan-Indian actress of those times, Savitri, also met Garry. Sir Garry Sobers was one of the world’s greatest all-rounders for two decades between 1954 and 1974. He was recognised as the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1964 and the Wisden cricketer of the century in 2000.
