This Friday is going to be mine, says Manchu Vishnu ahead of Kannappa's release

Kannappa is just a few hours away from hitting the screens. Ahead of its release, actor Manchu Vishnu today held a pre-release press meet in Hyderabad. Speaking to the media, Vishnu said with conviction, “Tomorrow is a Friday and this Friday is mine. As an actor, it’s a litmus test, given that I have shared screen space with stalwarts.”

Excerpts from the presser:

It is extremely gladdening to note that 1,15,000 tickets got sold in just 24 hours. I am truly humbled. This feels like Shiva Leela!

I am grateful that Prabhas has acted in my movie. I didn’t ask him to attend the pre-release event because I know he is not comfortable with such events.

Prabhas’ total episodes will last 40 minutes. Individually, his run-time may be 5-10 minutes less. Mohanlal garu’s character will be the biggest surprise element in the movie.

The majority of the audience is going to like Kannappa. I have warned of legal action for integrity reasons. The movie was screened for a select audience. Despite an embargo on reviews, 42 fake Twitter reviews gave low ratings. They hadn’t watched the movie. They tried to destroy the culture of cinema.

Someone who has watched the movie opined that everyone who cares for Sanatana Dharma must watch it.

In Kerala, Kannappa will be released on 300 screens. In Karnataka, too, it’s going to be one of the biggest movie releases.

There is no ticket price hike in Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh, too, we requested hike only for higher class tickets in single screens and that too only in a few places. I don’t want to burden the family audience. Kannappa has been made with the sole aim of introducing Bhakta Kannappa to kids.

Since those from the North India are not aware of Bhakta Kannappa’s story, the CBFC officials there objected to the depiction of Kannappa placing his foot on the Shiva Lingam. They didn’t want to allow such scenes fearing public backlash. I had to tell them that’s what happened in real life. The very idea behind my making this movie is to convey Kannappa’s story to the new generation. A beheading scene and a blood-spattering scene were censored. They also asked us to replace an objectional term (read ‘neecha jathi’).

Kannappa won’t be available in any streaming platform for the next 10 weeks.
