RRR, the name itself now reminds Telugu people of Rajamouli’s contribution to Telugu cinema on a global scale. He did not achieve this success overnight. SS Rajamouli has previously directed several big-budget films that were huge hits at the Telugu box office. For instance, Rajamouli’s Magadheera is also an action drama film. However, what made RRR different? How did it reach the heights of Indian cinema, which were quite difficult for many other big directors to achieve?
The success of RRR might have started even before the cast and audience knew it. Rajamouli’s vision was always to create movies that reflected Indian culture but reached a global audience.

Making RRR on International Standards:
Rajamouli planned for RRR to be a success and wanted to make it for Indians all over the world. He wanted to show people the standards of global filmmaking with an Indian essence.
RRR was made in a very peculiar style. They made sure the cinematography reflected the period in which they wanted to showcase the story. Also, Rajamouli took great care in getting his stunts choreographed. Most of the stuntmen who worked for RRR flew in from Hollywood, and under the supervision of King Solomon (known for the Baahubali franchise), the stunts were shot. Also, Rajamouli worked together with the Hollywood stunt coordinator, Nick Powell, for the climax action scene.
OTT Release And Hysteria:
The film’s success did not begin in the range that we are seeing it in now. RRR‘s box office collections exceeded 1200 crores. However, it was only confined to the languages in which Rajamouli released the movie. But the real raise only started when the team released the film on OTT.
RRR’s first OTT release was on Zee5. The team released it on May 20, 2022, two months after the theatrical release. They also planned to release the movie on Netflix in mid-June. But due to the high demand for the movie in different parts of the country, they released it early, in May itself. It was released in Hindi on Netflix.
Success of RRR partially started on Netflix. It was trending on the Top 10 list on Netflix in about 65 countries. This hysteria in public lasted for weeks.
Worldwide Release:
RRR was received in Japan with open arms and is highly appreciated by the Japanese audience, who loved the movie. This made the film unit release the movie in Japanese theaters. RRR was released on October 21, 2022, in Japan. This was seven months after the official release in India. However, this did not affect the collection for RRR in Japan.
Not only in its native language of Telugu, RRR excelled in other languages too, like Japanese. The audience were spellbound by the relationship shared between the two main characters in the film.
Global Recognition For RRR:
RRR might be one of the first films to be successful on a global level. Language wasn’t a barrier anymore to the film lovers to watch and appreciate the magnum opus RRR. Many Hollywood celebrities have noticed the movie and taken time to appreciate the efforts of Jakkana, who made this possible.
Hollywood celebrities and directors, including the Russo Brothers (directors of Avengers: Endgame and The Gray Man), Nathalie Emmanuel, JJ Abrams, Jessica Chastain, Jason Blum, James Gunn, and Scott Derrickson, Daniel Kwan, Larry Karaszewski, Joseph Morgan, Edgar Wright, and many others lauded Rajamouli and his making style of RRR.
Steps Away From The Oscars:
All the success of RRR was just the beginning. Following its recognition in Hollywood and other parts of the world, RRR began its journey of nomination on the international award platform. RRR isn’t stopping with the nominations, whether it’s for the best original song, the best director, or the best action film. Naatu Naatu has won the prestigious Golden Globe award.
Amidst all these, RRR has been nominated for OSCARS for the best original song (Naatu Naatu). There is a lot of anticipation among the audience and fans of RRR all over the world. Previously, India had many films represented at the Oscars, but had only won for Best Original Score (A. R. Rahman for Slumdog Millionaire) in 2009. Hope RRR bags this too, making Indian cinema proud on the global platform.
