New-age directors are among the biggest favourites of today’s generation of Telugu cinema-goers. Some of their works were recently honoured by the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards.
Nag Ashwin-directed Kalki 2898 AD was adjudged the First Best Feature Film for the year 2024. Besides, he also won the Best Director Award. Nag Ashwin, who debuted with Yevade Subrahmanyam in 2015, also directed Mahanati, a groundbreaking biopic. The Keerthy Suresh-starrer was the First Best Feature Film for the year 2018.
Run Raja Run, starring Sharwanand in the lead, was the First Best Feature Film for the year 2014. It’s directed by Sujeeth Reddy, who subsequently made Prabhas’ Saaho and awaits the release of Pawan Kalyan’s OG.
Pelli Choopulu, directed by Tharun Bhascker, won the Second Best Feature Film Award for 2016. The new-age filmmaker changed the way buddy comedies were perceived in Telugu through Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi.
Sankalp Reddy, who is currently making a historical action drama headlined by Gopichand, debuted with The Ghazi Attack in 2016. The film won the Third Best Feature Film Award.
Buchi Babu Sana, who made a smashing debut with Uppena in 2021, saw his maiden venture feted with the Third Best Feature Film Award. He is currently working on Ram Charan’s Peddi.
Jersey (helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri), Mallesham (directed by Raj Rachakonda), Colour Photo (directed by the young Sandeep Raj), and Middle Class Melodies (directed by Vinod Anantoju) are other major winners.
