In his latest interview, Suriya spoke about his experience of playing Rolex in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram. It is no secret that he did that role in the 2022 blockbuster out of immense respect for Kamal Haasan.
The Kanguva actor has spoken about setting aside his no-smoking policy on screen for the cameo. Suriya was asked to smoke on screen by a director for the first time in 20 years. The versatile actor didn’t know what exactly his 2-minute cameo was about until a few hours before he arrived on the set. “I didn’t have the script papers in hand,” Suriya said in one of his interviews this week.
Suriya was proud to do a cameo in a Kamal Haasan film and therefore, he submitted to Lokesh’s vision of the character Rolex. The cameo remains one of the best ever on the Indian screen.
This is not the first time he has spoken about it. In an interview to a newspaper in 2022, Suriya said, “I do not smoke in real life and do not advocate such scenes in my films. But drinking scenes, yes, I could not interfere with the creative vision since I am working mostly with senior filmmakers”.
Suriya’s Kanguva is hitting the screens on November 14th.
