Sunitha Upadrashta is well-known to the Telugu audience for her outstanding contributions to Telugu cinema as a playback singer and voice actor. Sunitha has a great career as a singer. Her records and rewards are solid samples of Sunitha’s career as a singer. On the other hand, Sunitha equally impressed us all with her voice acting. The sweetness and delightfulness in her voice is for ages, and it is an incredibly rare feat that Sunitha has given her vocals for more than 100 artists as a voice actor. Sunitha’s most recent work is for Ponniyin Selvan 1, Mani Ratnam’s dream project, where she dubbed in Telugu for Aishwarya Rai.
Aishwarya Rai played the role of Nandini in the film Ponniyin Selvan 1, aka PS 1. It is known to us all that Aishwarya Rai is Mani Ratnam’s most favourite actress, and the legendary director took every minute care in designing and presenting Aishwarya Rai as Nandini. Of course, as we all know, the role of Nandini is the most important one in the film, which changes the course of the film in both the interval and climax episodes. For such an important role, the audience must connect with it, and one of the best ways to do so is through voice. Aishwarya Rai is a Bollywood actress, and she could not dub at her best even though she is a bit aware of the language. So Mani Ratnam decided to go for the best voice actor to dub for Nandini in Telugu, and who else could he think of beyond our all-time favourite singer and voice actor, Sunitha?
Nandini is a very powerful character in the film PS 1. The character is very royal in looks and actions. There are various shades of emotion for the character Nandini as written by Mani Ratnam. Aishwarya Rai justified it at her best. Similar justification was done by Sunitha. In fact, Sunitha’s voice for Aishwarya Rai in Telugu even enhanced the character very much better. One could sense the royalty and the pride of a queen in the dialogues uttered by Aishwarya Rai on screen, and every bit of that work was from Sunitha off screen.
So far, Sunitha has dubbed for more than 750 movies as a voice actor since her debut with Raasi in the film Pelli Pandiri in 1999. Sunitha’s journey has been incredible thus far, and with lending her mesmerising voice to Aishwarya Rai in PS 1, she adds another milestone to her book of records, but this time the record is uncountable with reaching millions of Telugu audience.
