War 2 Movie Review: Star power, style and twists entertain the viewer

After Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3 comes War 2, the 6th edition in the YRF Spy Universe series. TFN reviews the crazy multi-lingual release. Story: Kabir (Hrithik Roshan), once RAW’s sharpest weapon, has traded his badge for a shadow-soaked life as a freelance assassin, hunting the world’s most untouchable targets with lethal precision. Across borders, a sinister coalition of global powers forms the clandestine cartel ‘Kali,’ hell-bent on orchestrating India’s collapse. Seeing Kabir’s unmatched skill as their ultimate trump card, Kali lures him into their web, tasking him with dismantling India and its intelligence agency, RAW. Enter Vikram (Jr. NTR), a relentless RAW operative with a razor-sharp mind and unyielding resolve, determined to thwart Kabir’s descent into chaos. Analysis: When War was released in 2019, a prominent film critic appreciated it for marrying Indian “masala sensibilities” to the Bond//Bourne action spectacles. War 2, six years later, does more than that with not one superstar but two of them. The YRF Spy Universe films have been synonymous with globetrotting aesthetics and superstar performances. And the film under review completely satisfies the high standards it had set for itself. Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan, with their charismatic spy persona, more than satisfy the viewer. From epic showdowns in slow motion to jaw-dropping plot twists, this movie has all the essential ingredients. We will take a trip down memory lane with a few well-timed flashbacks, then jet-set around the world for some cross-country thrills. And, of course, no adventure is complete without a beach song, and a liberal dose of mind-blowing VFX to tie it all together. The star of the soundtrack is Salam Anali, the two-hero song that never stops delivering peak gratification until the final frame. As for the action sequences, they come with the kind of range we would expect from a high-end, sophisticated spy thriller. The hand-to-hand combat scenes are uplifted by the aura of the two heroes. Kira Advani fills the shoes of stalwarts like Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone. The film’s powerful background scores amplify the adrenaline-fueled action and larger-than-life moments. Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara do the BGM with an awareness of the stakes involved. Breathtaking international locations, slick cinematography (Benjamin Jasper), and elaborate action choreography (by Spiro Razatos, Franz Spilhaus, Anl Arasu, and others) add to the polished quality of the film. Slow-motion shots, vibrant color palettes, and a general sense of glamour animates War 2. The dialogue is crowd-pleasing, with a focus on punchlines and patriotic one-liners. They are effective for the theatrical experience, especially the lines uttered by the Tarak-Hrithik duo. Special nod to Jr NTR, who makes a solid Bollywood debut. The versatile actor of RRR and Devara charts a new territory and he is as confident as ever. He is damn good in all the action scenes. Verdict: War 2 roars into the YRF Spy Universe with a thunderous bang, successfully expanding its high-octane formula. The film masterfully pits two of Indian cinema’s most charismatic superstars, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, against each other in a clash of titans that is nothing short of electrifying. Their on-screen presence and stellar action sequences are the film’s undeniable backbone, making for a truly spectacular theatrical experience.
