It was on this date (February 22nd) in 2019 that the iconic filmmaker, Kodi Ramakrishna, passed away. A master of multiple genres, his filmography was versatile. Diverse cinema defined his career. Kodi Ramakrishna wielded the megaphone for over 100 films, creating new subtexts across genres: family dramas, supernatural thrillers and mythological spectacles, among others. His directorial debut, Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya , happened in the year 1982. The box office success changed the course of his life. For decades, he continued his glorious journey. Genre Mastery: From Intense Narratives to Visual Spectacles Ankusam (1990), Ammoru (1995), and Arundhati (2009) are regarded his classics. Arundhati, starring Anushka Shetty, was a game-changer for the Telugu film industry in the genre it belonged to. Also, female-centric narratives took root. Kodi Ramakrishna was instrumental in elevating the standard of visual effects in Indian cinema. His films like Ammoru , Anji and Devullu set benchmarks for fantasy storytelling and visual grandeur. Beyond Directing: Mentorship and Lasting Impact Apart from being a successful director, he also played a key role in mentoring many actors and technicians in the industry. Numerous technicians and artists belonging to the film industry are grateful to Ramakrishna for honing them.
