“We have made Laila on a budget of more than Rs 30 Cr. Only we know the pain caused by people launching an online boycott campaign,” actor Vishwak Sen today said, distancing himself from ’30 Years Industry’ Prudhvi’s political remarks made on Sunday. The comedian happened to make unwarranted political remarks on stage at the pre-release event of Laila.
Vishwak Sen said:
The promotions have been entirely positive. I have been promoting Laila non-stop for the past two weeks by suspending my other works/shoots. I have gone through a lot mentally to play the role of a woman. Some folks have threatened to leak the HD print of our movie on the day of release. Why must I suffer for the mistake of someone else?
Film celebs have become an easy target. When that person (Prudhvi) made those remarks, I and my producer were outside the auditorium to personally receive Chiranjeevi garu (the chief guest for the event). We came to know about his remarks after we returned to our homes.
So far, 25,000 tweets have sprouted up calling for the boycott of Laila. Is it fair to target our film this way for the mistake of one person? I am not the guardian of the person who uttered those words. I didn’t pay his school fee. What do you get by dragging me into this mess? Had we been in control, we would have snatched the mic from him.
We would like to bury this controversy. We need the media’s support. Don’t scapegoat our movie. Since the controversy arose at our event, I hereby apologize. I am too young to speak on politics.
Producer Sahu Garapati said:
We are shocked to see the #BoycottLaila trends on social media. We have nothing to do with his personal remarks. A film is the result of hundreds of people coming together. We request everyone to see a film as a film. I request the media to encourage Laila so that it reaches everyone.
Laila hits the screens on February 14th.
