Pelli Kani Prasad Telugu Movie Review Dowry Drama Meets Hilarious Plotting

Pelli Kani Prasad was released in theatres today. The Sri Venkateswara Creations release stars Saptagiri and Muralidhar Goud in crucial roles.

Story:

Prasad (Sapthagiri), a fella toiling away in Malaysia, is still flying solo at the ripe old age of 38, all because his pops won’t let him tie the knot unless the bride is hauling a dowry of Rs. 2 crore in her trousseau. Meanwhile, Priya (Priyanka Sharma) and her kin are positively bonkers about planting their flag in the good old USA, giving the cold shoulder to any suitors who don’t vibe with their stars-and-stripes fantasy. After getting the brush-off one too many times, Priya catches wind of Prasad and, quick as a whip, cooks up a scheme to snag him as her groom without shelling out a single rupee. Her crafty plot goes off without a hitch, leaving Prasad’s dad spitting mad. But hold onto your hats—along comes a jaw-dropping twist that flips the script for Priya and her crew!

Analysis:

Pelli Kani Prasad draws its title from Venkatesh’s funny character in Malleeswari. Director Abhilash Reddy Gopidi weaves a part-slapstick, part-situational comedy based on a reasonably interesting premise.

The film has its story and screenplay written by Akhil Verma and YN Lohit. The writing stays true to the genre and the brand of comedy it wants to abide by. The situations are unpredictable to a good extent, adding to the overall whimsicality on display. In the age of buddy comedies and a certain kind of youth-heavy humour, it is commendable that this film relies on the issue of greed playing a role in marital choices. That way, there are lines that even elders can resonate with. Sujata Siddharth’s cinematography is decent. Shekhar Chandra has composed the music.

Sapthagiri’s comedy timing is intact. Ever since he was catapulted by fame by Prema Katha Chitram, he has played consistently funny characters. His lawyer roles have, in the past, tickled the funny bone. In the film under review, he plays his age and carries himself with the motivation of a seasoned lead man. His comedy timing is in sync with that of Muralidhar Goud, the DJ Tillu father. The duo strike well!

Priyanka Sharma is good. RX 100 fame Laxman Meesala, Annapurnamma, Vadlamani Srinivas, Pramodini, Basha, Rohini, and Ram Prasad play other roles. If you have watched the movie’s Trailer, you would be clued in about the nature of comedy to be expected. And the content delivers precisely that.

The love track has been interspersed with the male lead’s family scenes. Some of the quirky characters engage the audience with their hilarious eccentricities. The plot points in store have to be seen as strictly fun-centric. This is not the kind of film where you search for plot-level logics.

Verdict:

Pelli Kani Prasad successfully delivers on its promise of lighthearted entertainment, relying on Saptagiri and Muralidhar Goud’s comedic chemistry and a series of plot twists. While it may not be a film that prioritizes intricate logic, it offers a refreshing take on marital greed, served with a generous helping of slapstick and situational humor.
