Mechanic Rocky is produced by Rajani Talluri. The film has been released in theatres.
Story:
Nagumomu Rakesh aka Rocky runs a mechanic garage-cum-driving school with his father Ramakrishna (VK Naresh). Maya (Shraddha Srinath), an insurance company employee, approaches the garage to learn driving.
Meanwhile, Ranki Reddy (Sunil), a land-grabber, has set his sights on the garage. If Rocky has to save his property, he must earn Rs 40 lakhs within ten days. Maya might have the solution to his crisis. But what is in store could be something else.
Analysis:
This is not the kind of film you look at in silos. The first half is inseparable from the second half. Commercial movies like ‘Legend’ and ‘Akhanda’ can be neatly separated into two halves. But screenplay-based movies that are commercial on the surface shouldn’t be seen in fragments. It won’t make any sense. ‘Mechanic Rocky’ is one such movie, where things narrated in the first half make sense only after the entire second hour unfolds.
Vishwak Sen brings raw energy to his performance. His acting would make better sense after some incidents unfold rather than immediately. Meenakshi Chaudhary is slowly getting to play relatable roles; after ‘Lucky Baskhar’, this film lets her weep and feel like a real character.
Shraddha Srinath of ‘Jersey’ fame is one actress who shouldn’t be taken lightly. She is an absolute talent who is a perfect fit for roles that don’t require her to do routine dance numbers. Naresh VK is good, while Hyper Aadi plays a duplicitous travel agent. Harsha Vardhan plays a fairly important role, while Viva Harsha is fun to watch in a couple of scenes in the garage. ‘Roadies’ Raghu Ram fits the bill. Jeevan Kumar has a cameo. Vishwadev Rachakonda of ’35 Chinna Katha Kaadu’ fame makes impact.
Director Ravi Teja Mullapudi must be appreciated for blending entertainment with a crime thriller plot not for the sake of it but to intelligently keep the audience guessing.
Vijay, Supreme Sundar have choreographed the action scenes. Gulledu Gulledu, rendered by Mangli, should have been placed well. ‘I Hate u Daddy’ is entertaining. Jakes Bejoy’s background is in form. The cinematography by Manojh Reddy Katasani and editing by Anwar Ali are alright.
Verdict:
‘Mechanic Rocky’ is a screenplay-based movie with a crime plot and an investigation sub-track. Without the commercial ingredients, the treatment would have been serious and the film would have ended up being just another crime thriller. This film deserves appreciation for not turning too serious and dark.
