Gandhi Tatha Chettu is described by its makers as the big-hearted film of the year. To be released in theatres on January 24, its trailer was today shared digitally by Superstar Mahesh Babu.

Child artist Sukriti Veni Bandreddi, the daughter of director Sukumar and Thabitha Sukumar, plays the protagonist in this message-laden rural drama. Director Padmavathi Malladi tells the story of a village under siege. An industrialist attempts to set up a factory by displacing the residents of the village. When he attempts to go about destroying the trees, Sukriti’s character deploys Gandhian methods like civil disobedience. In her endeavour to protect the trees, she takes inspiration from the Appiko Movement, a nonviolent campaign that took place in Karnataka from 1983 to 1990 to prevent deforestation in the Western Ghats.
Presented by Thabitha Sukumar, the film is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers. The trailer ends on an emotional note, with the protagonist singing Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram. Ree is the film’s music director.
