Whenever genre movies and action dramas become reigning trends in any film industry, love stories and rom-coms tend to take a backseat. Romances and college campus stories have gone out of fashion in Telugu cinema to a large extent. In the post-Baahubali era, especially, the lure of love stories is nearly absent. The audience have seen enough of romances over the decades.
What if you are told the director behind a classic love saga like Sita Ramam himself is told the lucre of love stories wanes even further in the face of a con-man financial crime thriller like Lucky Baskhar? That’s what has happened.
Director Hanu Raghavapudi, speaking about Lucky Baskhar, said that a grandparent from his wife’s side has advised him to move away from love stories and mount a “meaningful” film like Lucky Baskhar. “Love stories have been made by many. Director Venky Atluri has nailed it with his latest outing by making something unique. My mother and granny have watched Lucky Baskhar. They want me to change the gears and do a film like Lucky Baskhar. It’s a feat that an 80-year-old woman feels so,” Hanu, also known for Andala Rakshasi, said.
Lucky Baskhar successfully minted more than Rs 55 crores in its first weekend. Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Meenakshi Chaudhary in lead roles, it also features Ramky, Sai Kumar and others.
