Liger starring Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role is the Bollywood debut and the first pan-Indian movie for the actor. Puri Jagannadh, one of Tollywood’s top directors is going to make his strong comeback into Bollywood with this mass action commercial movie. Liger Story:
Liger(Vijay Deverakonda) along with his mother(Ramya Krishnan) goes to Mumbai from Karimnagar to get trained in MMA. He works as a helper in the MMA training classes and waits for the right time to showcase his skill. Meanwhile, he falls in love with a rich girl (Ananya Panday) and later breaks up due to a sensitive conflict. Liger focuses back on his career and enters the ring of MMA fighting. He becomes a national champion and qualifies for the international MMA championship. Liger meets the international boxing champion, Mike Tyson, in this journey and also gets back his love. How Mike Tyson and Liger are related to each other and how Liger wins the international MMA championship is the rest of the narrative of the film.
On-Screen Performances:
Vijay Deverakonda as Liger is incredible and irreplaceable. As the actor himself said during the promotions of the film that he gave everything for the film, the same was truly reflected on screen and one can witness the enormous efforts Vijay had put in for the film, both physically and on acting excellence. He perfectly fits the role of an MMA fighter by his looks and that is the core strength of the film. Vijay’s stammering for the character also worked out very well. Liger is Vijay Deverakonda’s best work to date as an actor.
Ananya Panday on her debut in Tollywood is quite impressive. She is very glamorous with her screen presence and at the same time, amazed everyone with her performance too. Her attitude and energy in the songs, especially Aafat and Akdi Pakdi, stand out to be special.
Ramya Krishnan as Vijay Deverakonda’s mother shined in her role. Her ferocity and intensity are what a passionate mother needs and she portrays the same.
Mike Tyson, the international champ is undoubtedly the special attraction of the film. His presence lights up the screen and the spirit of the film. His scenes with Vijay Deverakonda are spellbinding.
Off-Screen Highlights:
Puri Jagannadh sets the mood of the film and the audience in the very beginning by opening it with the visuals of an MMA match. Then the film drives into a flashback where the audience can witness the journey of the champion Liger. Puri Jagannadh takes a very rooted story of an MMA aspirant from Karimnagar moving to Mumbai. This helps the film’s narrative cover the elements of nativity and originality in terms of writing. Puri Jagannadh repeats his strength of building hero characterization very strongly once again. The love track between the lead pair is also well written.
The intro fight of the lead actor Vijay Deverakonda in the Mumbai market is very impressive. The way Puri Jagannadh presented Vijay’s fighting skills in introducing his hero to the audience is an excellent move. Puri Jagannadh also presented his style of humour in the scenes between Getup Sreenu and Vijay Deverakonda. Puri and the train action sequences are the best matches and the same gets repeated for Liger. The train action episode in the first half is a delight to watch. All the MMA matches in the second half of the film are very well pictured.
Liger movie songs are placed in perfect situations and they all score the full credit in reaching the commercial values of the film. Ananya’s introduction song is cool. Aafat is the best romantic song in recent times. Its visuals on the beach side will surely appeal to the youth. Akdi Pakdi is a good energetic addition to the film. Besides an entertaining tune, Akdi Pakdi also has good choreography. The dance moves of Vijay Deverakonda are a special attraction of the song. Waat Laga Denge is like the soul song of the film representing the hero’s attitude and passion. Coka 2.0 at the end of the film is an entertaining one.
The other technical aspects of the film including cinematography, editing, and background score are all good. The action episodes are the best part of the entire film and the credit goes to the stunt director Kecha and his team.
