Early in March, a sequel to the Nikhil starrer Karthikeya was announced and it took the public by surprise. Karthikeya was a superhit movie and falls under the genre of supernatural thriller and Nikhil portrayed the lead character in the movie who is named as Karthikeya.
When a sequel was announced, fans of Nithin Sidharth were excited and were curious to see what kind of plot the filmmakers would come up with the second time. People Media Factory, the production house bankrolling Karthikeya 2. A conceptual video was released along with the news of a sequel which hints at Karthikeya trying to protect a 5000 year old ancient mystery from a greedy don. Karthikeya meanwhile had a plot about a medical student,Karthikeya who visits Subramanyapuram for a medical camp. However, when he learns about the mysterious deaths surrounding the local temple of Kumara Swami, he decides to investigate.

However according to the latest reports Karthikeya 2 will not be a sequel to Karthikeya according to director Chandoo Mondeti but would instead be a franchise. Karthikeya 2 is about the architects of the temples starting from Dwaraka, the movie would cover all the Swayambhu temples across India. Director Chandoo Mondeti also said people who have not watched Karthikeya would be able to relate to the second part.
Karthikeya 2 will be produced by T.G. Vishwa Prasad and Abhishek Agarwal under their banners of People Media Factory and Abhishek Agarwal Arts respectively. The music will be scored by Kaala Bhairava and cinematography will be handled by Karthik Ghattamaneni. Chandoo Mondeti will be directing Karthikeya 2.
