KA stars Kiran Abbavaram, Tanvi Ram and a few others in key roles. The Diwali release is a suspenseful thriller drama.
Story:
The story is set in the 1980s. An enthusiastic postman named Vasudev (Kiran Abbavaram) is held captive by a masked man in a secluded interrogation cell. An orphan who became a postman due to his peculiar curiosity to read letters addressed for others, Vasudev has fallen in love with his new home, Krishnagiri. While he is smitten by Sathyabhama, he also has another side to his personality – a tendency to hug danger. A Good Samaritan named Abidh Shaik, a dreaded goon named Lala and a missing persons element are introduced. What is at stake for Vasudev? Why has he been held captive? Is he innocent? Is he dangerous?
Analysis:
Directors Sujith and Sandeep set up the world of Krishnagiri pretty well. We see the village from the eyes of Vasudev, a naive, lovable postman who secretly admires the daughter of his master. How he gets sucked into an unknown scandal in the village is narrated in installments. He could be a sinner. He could be a trapped soul. The script manages to keep up the suspense till the end.
The narrative takes engaging turns without giving away anything at one go. The second half is more plot-driven than the first. As the story progresses, the scale grows. The narrative is non-linear.
The masked man appears to be ominous and strange; the character is more psychological than real. A machine that can hypnotize anybody is deployed.
The missing persons segment should have been written in a better way. The police department’s actions in the wake of the deepening criminality in the village should have been more believable and nail-biting.
KA doesn’t complicate things in the name of sci-fi or mystical elements. That’s really a merit. Sam CS’ background score is never loud. The cinematography and the production design are not overpowering either.
The performances are worthy of appreciation. Kiran Abbavaram‘s sincerity in the penultimate and climactic portions helps the film. Tanvi Ram, as Radha, evokes sympathy. Nayan Sarika, as Vasudev’s love interest, is good. ‘Balagam’ Jayaram, Achyuth Kumar, Saranya Pradeep, comedian Redin Kingsley and others are seen in different roles.
Verdict:
KA is a sincerely-written and made thriller.
