Tragedy struck on the sets of Indian 2 on February 20th, when a heavy duty crane operating on set failed and came crashing down leading to a major accident. Three members from the crew of Indian 2 lost their lives in this unfortunate incident and nine other people were injured. Director of Indian 2 Shankar and acting leads Kamal Haasan and Kaajal Aggarwal escaped the tragedy by a whisker when they moved away from the spot of the accident four seconds earlier.
As per latest news reports Kamal Haasan announced a compensation of Rs. 1 Crore for the families of the deceased technicians who lost their lives in the accident. In addition to this, Lyca Productions, the production house behind Indian 2 announced a compensation of Rs. 2 Crores to the families of the deceased and the injured.
The tragic incident once again raised questions on the safety compliance in place while making a movie. Kamal Haasan strongly condemned the lack of safety protocols calling the accident of the sets of Indian 2 as shameful.
The police have raised cases on Lyca Productions, the crane owner and the crane operator. So far no arrests have been made.
Celebrities came together to express their shock and condolences by posting messages on social media platforms.
