Following a recent controversy stemming from his comments at the Sankranthiki Vasthunam event in Nizamabad, leading producer Dil Raju has issued a clarification. On the occasion, Dil Raju had stated that people in Telangana are less enthusiastic about movies compared with people from the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh. In saying so, he mentioned that people in the state love ‘tella kallu’ and Mutton. His comments have been politicized and twisted.
Dil Raju today issued a video statement, urging political parties not to drag him into any mess. He stressed that he never intended to insult the Telangana culture, which he loves. He gave the examples of two of his blockbusters, Fidaa and Balagam, and how they played a role in showing the culture in a positive way. “Balagam has been loved by political leaders from all parties,” Dil Raju said. He added that Fidaa, in which the lead pair were from the state, was a blockbuster wherever it was released.
“My recent speech in Nizamabad has been misunderstood by some folks. I apologize to those who find my comments offensive. In the same speech, I said that I badly miss participating in the Dawat tradition. I have been misunderstood,” he said.
Dil Raju is also leading the TFDC. “I will work towards creating a healthy environment for the growth of the cinema industry in Hyderabad. In AP, Pawan Kalyan garu is also positive about developing the industry there. The TFDC will be into constructive works. We are not into political alignments. Please don’t drag me into unwarranted controversies,” Dil Raju said.
