As there are no huge successful films from Tollywood in 2021 till date, there were doubts both in the industry and in the public about the openings for the future releases. The films like Bangarraju and Rowdy Boys got some good response for Pongal, but when it comes to the collections, they did not get a great margin of business. Even the recent big release Khiladi is struggling a bit at the box office. But the small budget film DJ Tillu changed the game in Tollywood. The film was successful both with the response and the collections.
It is evident from the makers of the film DJ Tillu that the film earned 17 crores in the first week. The collections are both from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The film collected 9 crores share and emerged as the first solid hit from Tollywood this year.
DJ Tillu was released on 12th February, 2022, a day after the release of the film Khiladi. DJ Tillu could not get great openings on day one. DJ Tillu was a step behind Khiladi as far as day one is considered. But the film DJ Tillu manages to give a tough competition to Khiladi on the sunday and Valentine’s day. By the time the first week was completed, DJ Tillu stood at the same level of collections with Khiladi. Also, it is expected that the film DJ Tillu will have the same response for the second week too and by the time Bheemla Nayak gets released on 25th February, DJ Tillu might cross the 25 crore mark at the box office. DJ Tillu is doing great mostly in the Nizam areas than the Andhra cities.
DJ Tillu is written and directed by Vimal Krishna. The lead actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda contributed to the story and dialogues besides acting. The film was produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under the banner of Sithara Entertainments.
