This Diwali has been the most successful in years. The audience has been overwhelmed with choices, unsure which film to watch first. Lucky Baskhar, KA, and Amaran have delivered exceptional content across diverse genres.
Lucky Baskhar has taken the con-man financial crime thriller genre to the next level. The genres of KA and Amaran belong to two different worlds, with the former being a period Karmic thriller with a surreal element and the latter being a biographical war action drama. From Dulquer Salmaan’s vivacious performance to Sai Pallavi’s heart-rending act, from Kiran Abbavaram’s onscreen innocence to Sivakarthikeyan’s realistic portrayal, the feast has been diverse this Diwali.
In the last ten years at least, we haven’t had a Diwali of this level. Going back in time will reveal something interesting. It was in 2019 that Karthi’s Kaithi (dubbed and released in Telugu as Khaidi) and Thalpathy Vijay’s Bigil (dubbed and released in Telugu as Whistle) were successful at the Telugu box office. Last year, Jigarthanda DoubleX, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, was a Diwali release that received critical acclaim in Telugu.
More recently, in 2022, Vishwak Sen tasted success with Ori Devuda, a remake film that worked for the Telugu audience. The fantasy rom-com catered to the family audience as well as youths, much like this Diwali’s releases.
Ravi Teja’s Raja The Great was a Diwali hit in 2017. Director Anil Ravipudi and producer Dil Raju’s success streak was solid with this thorough action comedy. In 2014, Nikhil Siddhartha’s career made a sharp turnaround with the success of Karthikeya, the mystery thriller that also starred Swathi Reddy. Eight years later, the hero-director duo would script a much bigger hit with Karthikeya 2.
