Going by the latest interview of director Venu Sriram, Thammudu’s uniqueness hinges on three elements: its female protagonists propelling the story forward, its episodic action blocks, and its visual aesthetic.
“Unlike the usual quick fight sequences in Indian cinema, we have treated the action in Thammudu as impactful episodes. They have strong emotional and narrative value,” the Vakeel Saab maker says.
He is aware of the fact that his films have had strong female characters. “That’s consistent across my scripts. In Thammudu, the characters played by Laya, Varsha Bollamma, Sapthami Gowda, Swasika Vijay, and my daughter Deetya form the crux alongside Nithiin,” the MCA maker adds.
The archery element is central to Nithiin’s character. “Archery is one of the oldest disciplines in the world. I have long wanted to incorporate archery into a story, and finally got the chance in Thammudu,” Venu says, revealing that Nithiin underwent 15 days of training under a professional archery coach.
Thammudu has an ‘A’ rating going for it. Venu clarifies that it doesn’t mean the film is macabre to the extreme. “The film doesn’t have excessive violence. It’s just that the new censor officials are quite strict, and we respect their guidelines,” he ponders.
Thammudu, with music by Ajaneesh Loknath, will hit the screens on July 4th.
