In Bachhala Malli, actor Allari Naresh plays a tractor driver with unkempt hair and a messy demeanour. Director Subbu Mangadevvi reasons that working men in certain settings look the same. Saying that comparisons with the Pushpa Raj look are understandable, the director suggests that the Pushpa films didn’t inspire the look.
In the film’s Teaser, the titular character played by Allari Naresh snatches the donation money meant for orphans. “You will understand the emotion behind the scene when you watch the movie. There is a fool in all of us. But Malli is someone who is excessive in terms of how foolish he can be. He is a rank ‘moorkhudu’,” the director says.
The film is set in the 1990s. Is there a specific reason? “I grew up in a village atmosphere back in the ’90s. I am well-versed with the language and all. Moreover, there is a tender love story in Bachhala Malli. Today’s love stories have to adhere to certain rules. Conversations between lovers in today’s times are mediated by technology. Back in the ’90s, they used to be direct,” Subbu says.
The director adds that Amritha Aiyer’s character will be remembered for long. Rao Ramesh and Achyuth Kumar will also make a thorough impact, the director adds.
Also starring ‘Balagam’ Jayaram, Hari Teja, Praveen, and Viva Harsha, Bachhala Malli will hit the screens on December 20th.
