Movie theatres will continue to operate as usual from June 1st. There is no bandh for now. Discussions were held on Wednesday on the exhibitors’ decision to shut down theaters. It was decided that no shutting down is warranted for now.
“The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce held a meeting with distributors from the Telugu States. About 40 distributors attended the meeting. Hours later, the Chamber held another meeting with Telugu producers. A majority of the distributors and producers decided against the strike. They resolved to work towards solving the issues while keeping theaters running,” the official statement reads.
“In the past, closures of theaters due to digital service provider (Qube) issues and halts in shooting over artists’ remunerations did not yield effective results. Therefore, this time, both distributors and producers emphasized addressing the problems without shutting down theaters and by continuing film screenings,” the statement adds.
They also pointed out that due to piracy, the IPL, and OTT platforms, theater attendance has already significantly declined. With a series of movie releases lined up starting May 30, a shutdown would create further problems. Hence, distributors and producers urged exhibitors to reconsider the theater closure plan and cooperate for the development of the Telugu film industry.
