Ahead of the theatrical release of Court on March 14th, director Ram Jagadeesh says that thorough research of real-life cases forms a solid foundation for the movie. The courtroom drama, starring Priyadarshi as a lawyer, will be slice-of-life, the director says.
“The POCSO Act forms a major backdrop to the story. When I learned about a real-life POCSO case, I was really doubtful if such a thing could have happened. I came to know that there are many such improbable cases. I researched many of them. There are hundreds of cases in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. I felt that it would be great to talk about a representative case in the form of story. I read many case files. I thought that with the material from all those case files, a good story could be told. So, I combined them all into one story and presented it on the screen,” the director says in his latest interview.
As such, the film is not about one particular person or case but is a representation of many real-life cases, incidents, peoples, and courtroom sagas. “It was a happy moment getting to narrate the story to Natural Star Nani garu. He listened to the entire story over 2.5 hours in a single sitting. He welcomed me to Wallposter Cinema, his banner, after I was done with the narration,” Ram recalls.
Ram says that Court’s USP lies in the fact that it combines a love story and a courtroom thriller. Harsh Roshan and Sridevi play young lovers. Priyadarshi was the first one to listen to the story. “He asked me not to narrate the story to anyone else because he was keen on doing the film. Sivaji has played the kind of character we all see in many families,” Ram adds.
Ram Jagadeesh has worked with Sai Kumar (as a senior lawyer), Rohini, Harshavardhan, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Rajasekhar Aningi, Surabhi Prabhavathi, Vishika, and Vadlamani Srinivas. The music of Court is by Vijai Bulganin.
