In the pre-independence India of “Captain Miller,” an elderly woman played by Viji Chandrasekhar tells her impoverished rural friends that their god will one day rise to free them from slavery. After thereafter, the action shifts to a dacoit leader named Kannaiyan (Elangovan), who is apprehended by the British and betrays ‘Captain Miller’ (Dhanush). The narrative then follows Miller’s exploits as an army soldier, a dacoit, and eventually a liberation fighter. The rest of the script tells the story of how he helps his villagers become respected as human beings and saves them.
Captain Miller Movie Review:
With his eccentricities, Dhanush greatly enhances director Arun’s visionary depiction of the British during the ‘Quit India’ movement. The way the massacre is portrayed exudes realism along with western aesthetic. The narrative is improved by the music that GV Prakash has composed. A treat for action movie lovers.
On-screen Performances:
Another jewel in Dhanush’s crown, “Captain Miller,” lives true to his moniker. Dhanush has kept his followers enthralled throughout, from falling in love with princess Velmathi (Priyanka Mohan) and losing her right away to dressing in military uniform and exulting in his accomplishment. Not to mention the intense action scenes directed by Dilip Subbarayan, which highlight the multiple National Award winner’s greatest acting qualities.
Despite having limited screen time, Kannada actor Siva Rajkumar captures the hearts of people with his captivating portrayal as Sengol, the people’s champion. In the epilogue, Sundeep Kishan plays a Muslim soldier who experiences a similar goosebumps.
Priyanka Mohan plays a compelling role as the affluent princess who betrays her own family in order to further the interests of the populace. The other cast, including Vinoth Kishan, Elango Kumaravel, Jayaprakash, and “Merku Thodarchi Malai” Antony, have all performed their parts well.
Off-Screen Performances:
The music of G.V. Prakash Kumar complements the story and uplifts the spirits during the drawn-out, repetitious scenes. A significant bonus for emulating the historical aesthetic with a range of color tones is Siddhartha Nuni’s cinematography.
The remaining details, which include the sound design, editing, and production design, support the story and compliment so well. Thanks to Nagooran Ramachandran’s editing, it is quite on point.
End-Note:
“Captain Miller” is an amazing film that will keep you entertained the entire time. Aside from the highly delightful cameos by Kannada actor Shiva Raj Kumar, Sundeep Kishan, and others, Dhanush’s on-screen persona, Arun’s creative direction, and GV Prakash’s soundtrack stand out.
