Birth Anniversary Spl Uday Kiran's Brief but Fascinating Kaleidoscope of Genres

Late Uday Kiran, though his career was tragically cut short, left a mark on Telugu cinema through his admirable versatility. Within a mere few years, he juggled diverse roles in multiple genres. On his birth anniversary today (June 26th), let’s have a look at his diverse filmography.

Chitram, released in 2000, was a trend-setting rom-com in which Uday Kiran and Reema Sen played college-mates. The unplanned pregnancy element was its USP.

It was Nuvvu Nenu that catapulted the actor to overnight stardom. In this Teja directorial, Uday Kiran charmed audiences as Ravi, a college-goer from a rich background deeply in love, navigating parental opposition. This film made him a chocolate boy to reckon with.

He then transitioned to the heartwarming tale of friendship in Nee Sneham, portraying Madhav, a passionate footballer whose bond with his best friend is tested by love. Although not as commercially successful as Nuvvu Nenu and Chitram, this film showed Uday Kiran’s yearning for thematic variety.

Neeku Nenu Naaku Nuvu was a family drama in which he played an adopted son helping his grandfather reconcile with his estranged granddaughter. This was a family drama in the age of youthful entertainers and college-based rom-coms.

And in 2002, Uday Kiran even ventured into the action genre with Sriram, taking on the role of an aspiring cop.

Factoid: Uday Kiran was offered Athadu, which was later done by Mahesh Babu.

His ability to convincingly portray a wide array of characters, from the quintessential “lover boy” to a determined police aspirant, made him an actor who exhibited a rapid range.
