Love triangles are always interesting if they involve misunderstandings, dilemmas, an element of unrequited love, and so on. Sree Vishnu’s Single is going to be a romantic comedy involving a male lead and two heroines (played by Ketika Sharma and Ivana).
Ahead of the film’s theatrical release on May 9th, TFN takes a look at some of the most-loved love triangle stories in Telugu cinema.
Prema Desam (1996): When it was released, the audience didn’t know how to categorize it. Was it a friendship story? Or, was it a triangular love story? The climax was goosebumps-inducing. Starring Tabu, Vineeth and a handsome Abbas, the film had timeless songs composed by AR Rahman. Made originally in Tamil, it was dubbed into Telugu.
Nuvve Kavali (2000): The story of this movie threatened to turn into a routine love story but that was not to be. A classic of sorts, this movie starred debutants Tarun, Richa Pallod and Sai Kiran. The runaway blockbuster had great songs set to tune by Koti.
Arya (2004) & Arya 2 (2009): These films dealt with the concept of a protagonist (Allu Arjun) who loves someone who is in love with someone else. Director Sukumar’s treatment of triangular love was so unique that the scenes made us question the confusion shown by the female lead in Arya. In Arya 2, things were even less straightforward.
Brindaavanam (2010): This movie involves a hero (Jr NTR) who pretends to be the boyfriend of one girl to help her avoid marriage, only to have the other girl in her family fall in love with him, leading to a complex love triangle. Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu co-starred in this Vamsi Paidipally directorial.
Mr. Perfect (2011): The protagonist (Prabhas) has to choose between two women with contrasting personalities, forcing him to reconsider his definition of a perfect partner. This one co-starred Kajal Aggarwal and Taapsee Pannu.
Iddarammayilatho (2013): As the title suggests, this film centers on a hero (Allu Arjun) who crosses paths with two different women (Amala Paul and Catherene Tresa) of contrasting personas.
Baby (2023): Vaishnavi Chaitanya’s character in the film almost falls for her affluent collegemate and makes out with him when pushed to the corner. But her loyalty is firmly to her autodriver-boyfriend, played by Anand Deverakonda.
