After AR Rahman and Saira Banu recently announced their divorce, several YouTubers and social media handles started spreading unfounded rumours about their separation. On Saturday, the legendary composer’s lawyer asked them to take down the content or face criminal cases.
Rahman has taken a strong exception to the “programs, interviews attributing obscene contents thereby intending to harm the reputation of my client (read Rahman) and also intended to be hurtful to his family”. Those who have been “inventing highly imaginary and false stories to defame my client merely for their cheap short lived publicity” will face defamation suits.

The statement notes, “There were also interviews by some busy bodies about their own perspective on the failure of their marriage life.”
AR Rahman’s statement announcing divorce:
“We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
