Speaking about why he centered his latest film on a strong female protagonist, 8 Vasantalu’s writer-director Phanindra Narsetti remarked that the cinematic landscape has been dominated by testosterone-driven narratives for the past half a decade. While his previous films (Manu, Madhuram) had strong female characters, this time, he makes it all female-centric.
In 8 Vasantalu, Ananthika Sanilkumar’s character comes with multiple shades. She yearns for poetic romance, she marshalls her physical stamina as a martial arts student, she speaks out against orthodoxy, so on and so forth. She is also a writer to boot.

The dialogues concerning love are not just personal but also hold out social commentary. Is a woman’s love as important as the man’s love for History books? If no, why? It will be interesting to see what kind of perspective the film has to offer. As the makers said, the film is a “powerful depiction of a woman’s heart and love”.
The film co-stars Ravi Duggirala, Hanu Reddy, and Kanna Pasunoori. Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar, the layered drama film has production design by Aravind Mule, and editing by Shashank Mali. Vishwanath Reddy’s cinematography is expected to be a major asset. Action choreography is by Wing Chun Anji.
8 Vasantalu hits the screens on June 20th.
