As the positive COVID-19 cases keep on increasing in India, there seems to be no respite in sight for multiple industries which have been affected by the lockdown. The central government implemented a strict 3 week lockdown on March 24th and has since then extended the lockdown twice. The country is currently experiencing its third lockdown and the Telangana government has declared a lockdown till May 29th.
Malls and theaters are advised to be closed under strict government orders in order to discourage mass gathering of people. This meant that the movie industry took a big hit as movie releases were postponed and movie shootings were put on hold as well due to everyone being at home. However, producers were hoping for some form of respite from the government so they can work on post production works which have been pending for a long time.

However it looks like the Telugu Film industry is not so lucky as the government has denied permission to resume post production works. “We had requested the government to allow post-production work of films with minimal staff. We don’t need more than seven members and we assured that all the necessary precautions would be taken. However, we have been told that there will be no official notification from the government allowing post-production works to resume until May 29 (sic,)” says Ram Mohan Rao, Chairman, Telangana State Film Development Corporation.
However, Ram Mohan Rao is hopeful that the government will consider their request when the cabinet convenes for the special review of the on ground situation in Telangana on May 15th. Ram Mohan Rao adds, “CM KCR is conducting a review meeting on May 15 where our issues will be heard as well. We are hopeful that he will give us some relief and allow post-production works to resume with minimal staff from May 16 onwards. However, we are already preparing for a scenario without any film activity till the end of the month (sic.)”
