The most prolific South Indian singer, P.Susheela has completed 65 musical years since she started singing in 1953, in K.S.Prakash Rao’s Kanna Talli (Petra Thai in Tamil.)
To celebrate the Melody Queen’s achievement, Laya Media, a Chennai based musical troupe arranged a huge felicitation function by the bigwigs of Tamil Film Industry recently, where P.Susheela was conferred with ‘Isai Perarasi‘ (The Empress Of Film Music) title.
Legendary composer Ilaiyaraja presented a diamond ring to P.Susheela and noted poet Vairamuthu strung a garland of poem on P.Susheela.
The program’s finale was K.J.Yesudas’ tribute to P.Susheela comparing her with the Goddess Saraswathi
“I did not see the Goddess, but I am fortunate to see her personification in P.Susheela Amma. She is the goddess of pure music(sic.)”
Various film personalities from the Tamil Film industry spoke at length about the legend that Susheela amma is.
