Mohan Babu, one of the most influential and powerful actors of the Telugu film industry, is now back in the headlines. Recently, the actor was in the news for bagging a role in an upcoming Mani Ratnam flick.
Now, Mohan Babu is in the headlines as he was penalized by the Irram Manzil Court. Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures and Manchu Manoj are the parties involved in this case. While Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures is the A1 party, Manchu Manoj is the A2 party in this cheque bounce case. Apparently, the veteran actor issued a cheque in 2010 to one of his associates, Y.V.S. Chowdary, for a sum of Rs. 40,50,000.
However, the cheque bounced and according to the banking regulations, it is a punishable offense if a cheque is issued when there are no sufficient funds in the account. The associate who received the cheque filed a complaint with the Court. The Court issued an order to pay Rs. 1,25,000, in addition to the actual amount and that too within a span of three months. Apart from the huge penalty, the actor will also face one year imprisonment.
Additionally, in case Mohan Babu fails to pay the amount within the stipulated period, the imprisonment sentence may extend by 3 months.
However, according to a few trusted sources, Mohan Babu stated this whole affair came into light with regard to the movie, Saleem. Mohan Babu further added, they had cleared all the amount which was due for this movie and the amount in question was an advance for the next project.
As Saleem did not meet the expectations of the audience, Mohan Babu requested the director not to present the cheque in the bank. However, Y.V.S. Chowdary did not pay heed to his request and went ahead to present it.
Now, Mohan Babu is enraged by this gesture and stated, he is willing to go to any lengths to clear his name.
